Signal Integrity & Metallization
Signal integrity and additive manufacturing, particularly metallization, are hot topics in PCB design and fabrication. PCB layouts are carefully engineered to achieve specific electrical and power performance targets.
Beyond the Rulebook
What happens when the rule book is no longer useful, or worse, was never written in the first place? In today’s fast-moving electronics landscape, we’re increasingly asked to design and build what has no precedent, no proven path, and no tidy checklist to follow. This is where “Design for Invention” begins.
March Madness
From the growing role of AI in design tools to the challenge of managing cumulative tolerances, these articles in this issue examine the technical details, design choices, and manufacturing considerations that determine whether a board works as intended.

Where Electronics Manufacturing Turns for Trusted Technical Insight
January 12, 2026 | I-Connect007 Editorial TeamEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
In an industry defined by rapid innovation, increasing system complexity, and mounting pressure to deliver reliable products faster, access to credible technical insight is more important than ever. I-Connect007’s Industry Resource Center was created to serve as a centralized, freely accessible library of in-depth whitepapers that address the challenges facing today’s electronics professionals.
The Resource Center was built with engineers, manufacturers, and decision-makers in mind, and reflects I-Connect007’s long-standing commitment to education, technical rigor, and practical relevance across the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The whitepapers featured in the Industry Resource Center span the full electronics lifecycle, covering topics from advanced packaging and board-level integration to materials selection, reliability, and sustainability. These resources have been commissioned by the leading voices in the industry, including the Global Electronics Association, MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions, NCAB Group, Taiyo Uden, and more. Together, they offer perspectives grounded in real-world manufacturing and design experience, providing readers with insight they can apply directly to current and future programs.
A recurring theme throughout the collection is the growing complexity of modern electronic systems and the need for tighter integration across traditionally separate disciplines. These papers focus on practical considerations such as material compatibility, reliability risk, and the increasing interdependence between design intent and manufacturing capability, underscoring why early cross-disciplinary alignment is becoming critical as products move toward next-generation integration strategies.
Sustainability is one prominent focus within the Resource Center, particularly in whitepapers commissioned by the Global Electronics Association. The content explores how environmental goals intersect with cost, reliability, compliance, and long-term product performance, helping manufacturers to understand where sustainability initiatives have a tangible impact on both engineering and business.
Material selection and protection strategies are also explored in depth, with guidance contributed by industry suppliers such as MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions, and cover topics like conformal coatings and protective materials. These technical insights highlight the downstream effects of early material decisions on yield, process control, and long-term reliability, reinforcing the importance of informed choices early in the design cycle.
The whitepapers in I-Connect007’s Industry Resource Center emphasize informed, application-driven decision-making. By bringing together perspectives from industry associations and technology suppliers alike, the Resource Center provides readers with a well-rounded view of the technical forces shaping today’s electronics industry and the insights needed to navigate them with confidence.
Through opportunities like the Industry Resource Center, I-Connect007 continues to expand its role as an educational partner to the global electronics community, helping professionals stay informed, aligned, and prepared for what comes next.

The Journey from Dilution to Zero Liquid Discharge
05/11/2026 | Richard Nichols, GreenSource EngineeringIf you’re familiar with the PCB industry, and a little long in the tooth like me, you may remember the cry, “The water board is here!” (or an equivalent authority). This was the signal for a frantic but regularly rehearsed exercise to turn on all the rinses. This anecdote demonstrates that in the early days of PCB production, prevailing practices revolved around a “dilution is the solution” mentality, in which manufacturers used copious amounts of water to dilute contaminants before discharging them into regulated municipal wastewater systems or natural water bodies.
I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
05/08/2026 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007This week, I’ve selected some outstanding interviews that you’ll want to take note of. First, is a roundtable discussion featuring three dynamic industry cybersecurity experts. Please watch this important discussion that affects us all. Following that, I spotlight the IPC-2581 Consortium, which explains why IPC-2581 is the standard to replace Gerber data for manufacturing. Next, I am including my interview with PCBAA and AAM, who collaborated to release a short documentary on U.S. PCB manufacturing.
Hall of Fame Spotlight Series: Highlighting Karen McConnell
05/07/2026 | Dan Feinberg, I-Connect007In 2021, Karen McConnell was awarded the Raymond E. Pritchard Hall of Fame award in recognition of her contributions to the Association and the electronics industry. As a senior staff member and CAD/CAM engineer at Northrop Grumman Enterprise Services, her primary responsibility was to develop a common, shared EDM (Electronic Document Management) library to support the electrical and PCB design tool initiatives across Northrop Grumman Mission Systems.
