Foxconn Technology Group and Pace CCS , a leading UK-based company in carbon capture and storage (CCS) design , jointly announced the opening of a laboratory in Taiwan to develop chemical injection technology to effectively prevent corrosion of internal CCS pipelines. This technological collaboration represents a significant step forward in addressing a long-standing key challenge for the CCS industry.
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is a key technology for achieving net-zero emissions! This collaboration combines Foxconn's expertise in precision manufacturing with Pace CCS 's professional design experience, demonstrating cross-industry collaboration to jointly promote the goal of addressing climate change. Global demand for carbon capture is projected to reach 8 billion tons of CO2 annually , requiring trillions of dollars in investment, making it a crucial strategy for most countries.
Currently, protecting CCS infrastructure from corrosion is a major technical challenge. Chemical reactions during carbon dioxide transport produce corrosive substances such as sulfuric acid and nitric acid. These reactions can also generate water and solids, leading to corrosion, erosion, and blockage of treatment wells.
Foxconn 's new laboratory will attempt to validate a chemical scavenger already used in industries such as semiconductor manufacturing . The goal is to prove that this scavenger can effectively prevent the formation of harmful acidic substances and water in actual CCS operating environments.
