Meyer Burger Shuts Down Solar Module Production, Lays Off 282 Employees in the U.S.

Meyer Burger Technology AG is forced to stop its solar module production in the U.S., which is still ramping up, due to a lack of funds. On May 29, 2025, all 282 remaining employees at the Goodyear, Arizona, site received their notices of termination. Production with an annual capacity of 1.4 gigawatts was shut down immediately.

In the wake of the USA’s tariffs on China as well as a weakening market sentiment, mostly in the consumer space, IDC has reduced its traditional PC forecast in 2025 and beyond. Global PC volume is now expected to reach 273 million in 2025, still growing +3.7% over the prior year though this is a slight reduction from the prior forecast.

Last month, I read about a United Airlines flight that declared an emergency over the middle of Hudson Bay in northern Canada.
