In early September, Edy Yu and Tulip Gu of ECIO, and I-Connect007’s Marcy LaRont visited Sundell Technology’s Thailand facility at the Rojana Industrial Park in Ayutthaya Province. Two years into operation, the factory has devoted considerable investment and effort to things that are largely “invisible.”
Registered in February 2023 and commencing production in 2024, the company has invested nearly RMB 1.2 billion in the facility, which covers approximately 267,000 square meters and was initially planned for a monthly production capacity of 120,000 square meters. Among Chinese-funded PCB manufacturers that have established factories in Thailand, Sundell Technology ranks near the top on almost every measure.
Sundell Technology’s growing list of investments includes most key materials, chemicals, and auxiliary materials that are now sourced locally, supported by a three-tier supply system comprising direct local supply, vendor-managed inventory (VMI) consignment, and strategic inventory reserves; automation exceeds 95% in core processes; and every PCB can be traced throughout the entire production process at the individual-piece level. None of these initiatives directly generates dollars. What they produce instead is something else: certainty, which is precisely the most expensive—and least visible—product that PCB manufacturers must create after expanding into Thailand.
Sundell Technology is still ramping up capacity quarter by quarter. While outsiders are focused on when the factory will reach full capacity, the sequence of Sundell Technology’s moves is worth noting: first, create certainty, then wait for orders to materialize. During our visit, Sundell Technology President He Zixiu, General Manager Song Bo, and Quality Director Peng Min were interviewed about how a high-end PCB factory creates “certainty, ”and when it can convert that certainty to orders.
