Custom Interconnect Ltd (CIL) is pleased to announce that it has achieved accreditation to ISO 14001:2015, the internationally recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems. The certification was awarded by BSI Assurance UK Ltd on 9th October 2026 following a rigorous independent audit of our operations, processes and management practices at both its CIL House and Blueprint 2 facilities. It confirms that CIL has a robust, structured framework in place to identify, manage, monitor and continually reduce the environmental impact of our business.
For CIL, this accreditation is far more than a certificate on the wall. It is formal recognition of the work our people have put in over many months to embed environmental responsibility into every part of how we operate, from the design and procurement stages through to manufacturing, test, logistics and end-of-life considerations for the products we help bring to market.
What ISO 14001:2015 means
ISO 14001:2015 sets out the requirements for an effective Environmental Management System (EMS). It requires organisations to understand the environmental aspects of their activities, comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations, set measurable objectives, and demonstrate a commitment to continual improvement. The 2015 revision places particular emphasis on leadership involvement, a life-cycle perspective and integrating environmental management into core business strategy rather than treating it as a stand-alone function.
Achieving the standard means CIL's approach to environmental management has been independently verified against these requirements. It also means we will be subject to ongoing surveillance audits, ensuring that our performance continues to improve year on year rather than standing still.
Why it matters to our customers
As a provider of electronics manufacturing and semiconductor assembly and test services, CIL works with customers across demanding sectors where quality, reliability and responsible supply chains are essential. Increasingly, our customers need confidence that their manufacturing partners share their environmental values and can support their own sustainability targets and reporting obligations.
ISO 14001:2015 accreditation gives our customers that assurance. It demonstrates that CIL manages its environmental responsibilities in a systematic, transparent and auditable way, helping customers reduce risk in their supply chains and meet the expectations of their own stakeholders, regulators and end users. It also complements our existing quality management credentials, reinforcing CIL's position as a trusted, well-governed partner.
Our environmental focus areas
Through the development of our Environmental Management System, CIL has identified the areas where we can make the greatest difference. These include:
- Energy efficiency: monitoring and reducing energy consumption across our manufacturing equipment, facilities and support functions.
- Waste reduction and recycling: minimising waste at source, improving segregation and increasing the proportion of materials that are reused or recycled.
- Responsible materials management: ensuring hazardous substances and chemicals are handled, stored and disposed of safely and in full compliance with relevant regulations.
- Supply chain engagement: working with suppliers who share our commitment to environmental responsibility and encouraging improvement throughout our supply chain.
- Employee awareness: equipping every member of our team with the knowledge and responsibility to contribute to our environmental objectives.
A team achievement
This accreditation reflects the dedication and commitment of colleagues across the entire business. Achieving ISO 14001:2015 required careful review of our processes, the introduction of new procedures and controls, and a shared willingness to think differently about the way we work. We would like to thank everyone at CIL who contributed to this achievement, as well as our auditors for their thorough and constructive assessment.
“Achieving ISO 14001:2015 is a proud moment for everyone at Custom Interconnect. It shows that environmental responsibility is now built into the way we run our business, not added on as an afterthought. Our customers, our people and our community rightly expect us to take our environmental impact seriously, and this accreditation is clear evidence that we do. Just as importantly, it gives us a framework to keep improving,” said John Boston, Managing Director Custom Interconnect Ltd.
Looking ahead
Accreditation marks an important step on a continuing journey rather than a final destination. CIL will continue to set and review environmental objectives, measure our performance and identify new opportunities to reduce our impact. We will also keep engaging with customers and suppliers to find practical ways of working together towards a more sustainable electronics industry.
We look forward to building on this achievement and to sharing our progress with customers, partners and colleagues in the months and years ahead.
