I-Connect007 is excited to announce its newest columnist, Dr. Adam Klett, director of science at KYZEN. His new column, The Clean Truth, will appear monthly in SMT007 Magazine, bringing a science-based perspective to cleaning, contamination control, and reliability in electronics manufacturing.
Klett is a chemical engineer and scientist whose expertise includes chemical phase behavior, material characterization and selection, process development, and failure analysis. Through The Clean Truth, he will separate cleaning facts from industry myths while examining the practical realities manufacturers face when making decisions about cleaning processes and contamination control.
Among the topics Klett plans to address are the realities of “no-clean” flux, process qualification, ionic contamination, cleanliness specifications, ROSE testing, and the role residues and surface chemistry can play in reliability failures.
He also brings extensive industry involvement to the column. As a member of the Global Electronics Association, he chairs the committee responsible for updating the IPC-CH-65 Cleaning Handbook. He is active in SMTA at both the chapter and global levels and serves on the SMTA Global Board of Directors. He regularly presents on cleaning technologies and is known for his “Ask Dr. Adam” series addressing real-world electronics assembly cleaning challenges.
Klett earned his bachelor's degree and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Clemson University, where his research focused on thermodynamics and phase behavior. He will bring that combination of science, standards expertise, and practical industry experience to the questions electronics manufacturers encounter every day, particularly where common assumptions don't always match what science tells us.
