Scanfil Wutha has taken another step toward autonomous production by implementing a fully automated test cell for electronic assemblies. Combining robotics, intelligent process control, and manufacturing expertise, the solution improves efficiency, quality, and competitiveness while enabling highly reliable, traceable, and autonomous testing operations.
Scanfil Wutha has implemented a fully automated testing solution to enhance productivity, quality, and competitiveness in electronics manufacturing. Developed in collaboration with Scanfil’s Industrial Engineering team, the new automated test cell combines robotics, smart process control, and manufacturing expertise to streamline the testing of electronic assemblies.
Enabling Automated Testing Process and Autonomous Production
At the core of the solution is a collaborative robot (cobot) that automates the process using electronic testing application. The cobot picks panels from a magazine, loads them into the test fixture, and automatically initiates the testing cycle.
Test results are transferred directly to the cell controller, enabling automatic product sorting. Defective boards are identified, marked, and routed to a dedicated rework magazine, while approved boards are transferred to a different maganize. This ensures a highly reliable, fully traceable testing process with minimal manual intervention.
The automated test cell is designed to operate independently for long periods of time. Human operators simply load and unload magazines at the beginning or end of a shift, while testing and sorting continue autonomously.
This capability creates the foundation for a “black shift” operation, allowing production to continue without direct operator involvement while maximizing equipment utilization and maintaining consistent quality.
Strengthening Competitiveness and Creating Customer Value
As manufacturers face increasing cost pressure and global competition, automation plays a vital role in maintaining efficiency and competitiveness. By combining robotics with intelligent process control, the Wutha factory can increase throughput, improve process stability, and reduce operational costs without compromising quality.
These improvements further strengthen Scanfil Wutha’s ability to deliver high-quality electronics manufacturing services while providing customers with efficient and scalable production solutions.
Continuous investments in automation are a key part of Wutha’s commitment to maintain operational excellence and long-term competitiveness. The autonomous test cell is another example of how Scanfil transforms innovation into tangible customer benefits through the seamless integration of people, technology, and automation.
