Calumet Electronics Continues to Advance Domestic HDI Circuit Board and Organic Substrate Capability

Calumet Electronics Corporation, a leading American-made printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer, today announces another major milestone in its ambitious program to bring advanced high-density interconnect (HDI) and high-density buildup (HDBU) capabilities online. Just this week, the factory’s new PerFix 500 came online. This addition enables Calumet Electronics to continue pushing domestic PCB innovation. The PerFix 500 is a next-generation Automated Optical Shaping system tailored for high-density interconnect (HDI) circuit boards and organic substrates.
Last February, Calumet announced that it had begun installing new HDI and HDBU equipment—encompassing high-speed drilling, precision etching, optical routing, automated drill-hole wall preparation, and more—to meet the surging demand for compact, high-reliability circuit boards used in aerospace, defense, medical, commercial, and space applications.
This latest addition to Calumet’s advanced tooling arsenal reflects the company’s commitment to enabling some of the most complex and precise circuit designs in defense, aerospace, and high-reliability markets. The PerFix 500, developed by KLA, enables the improvement of inner and outer layer yields for Organic Substrates by shaping open and shortened traces damaged during handling or etching.
“Our Advanced Technology Center and engineering teams have been busy with HDI, organic substrates, and advancing the world of circuit board technology,” said Rob Cooke, Chief Business Development Officer. “HDI and organic substrate programs require deep capability, and PerFix gives us another lever to control quality, consistency, and performance across intricate builds.”
As Calumet’s advanced engineering and technology teams continue to build out full HDI and HDBU capability, investments like the PerFix 500 help reinforce the company’s role as one of the few domestic suppliers manufacturing next-gen PCBs entirely in the U.S.
Customers benefit not only from new technologies but also from Calumet’s strategic focus on reliability, security, and short domestic supply chains. The same systems that enable high-performance HDBU and HDI also improve yield and quality in conventional PCB runs.
