Current IssueIn Pursuit of Perfection: Defect Reduction
For bare PCB board fabrication, defect reduction is a critical aspect of a company's bottom line profitability. In this issue, we examine how imaging, etching, and plating processes can provide information and insight into reducing defects and increasing yields.
Voices of the Industry
We take the pulse of the PCB industry by sharing insights from leading fabricators and suppliers in this month's issue. We've gathered their thoughts on the new U.S. administration, spending, the war in Ukraine, and their most pressing needs. It’s an eye-opening and enlightening look behind the curtain.
The Essential Guide to Surface Finishes
We go back to basics this month with a recount of a little history, and look forward to addressing the many challenges that high density, high frequency, adhesion, SI, and corrosion concerns for harsh environments bring to the fore. We compare and contrast surface finishes by type and application, take a hard look at the many iterations of gold plating, and address palladium as a surface finish.

The Test Connection, Inc. (TTCI) Joins PCBAA as First and Only Test Engineering Company
March 24, 2025 | TTCIEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
The Test Connection Inc. (TTCI), a leading provider of electronic test and manufacturing solutions, proudly announces its membership in the Printed Circuit Board Association of America (PCBAA), becoming the first and currently the only test engineering company to join this vital consortium dedicated to strengthening domestic PCB manufacturing and supply chains.
The PCBAA represents a coalition of U.S.-based companies supporting the domestic production of printed circuit boards (PCBs), essential materials, and the resiliency of the microelectronics supply chain. As the foundation of modern electronics, PCBs enable semiconductors to function within devices, forming the backbone of everything from consumer technology to mission-critical defense systems. TTCI’s participation brings a unique and crucial voice to the association, advocating for test engineering’s role in ensuring quality, reliability, and security across the U.S. electronics ecosystem.
“Joining PCBAA aligns with our commitment to strengthening the domestic electronics industry by emphasizing the importance of test and quality assurance in every stage of the PCB lifecycle,” said Bert Horner, President at The Test Connection, Inc. “As the only test engineering company in PCBAA, we look forward to bringing our 45 years of expertise to the table to support both policy initiatives and technological advancements that will benefit the entire U.S. electronics manufacturing sector.”
Celebrating its 45th anniversary, TTCI has built a reputation for delivering best-in-class in-circuit testing (ICT), functional test development, and boundary scan solutions to industries where failure is not an option, including aerospace, defense, medical, and automotive. As a certified ISO 9001:2015 and ITAR-registered company, TTCI is trusted to ensure product quality, reduce defects, and optimize manufacturing efficiency through comprehensive test engineering services.
In addition to its industry-leading test services, TTCI recently launched The Training Connection, LLC (TTC-LLC) — a dedicated training division offering Design for Test (DFT) education, IPC standards certifications (610, 600, 620), and advanced soldering techniques. With training locations in Baltimore and Tampa, TTC-LLC empowers engineers, technicians, and professionals with the hands-on skills and industry knowledge required to meet the demands of modern electronics manufacturing.
As the U.S. works to rebuild and secure its domestic electronics supply chain, test engineering plays a critical role in ensuring that American-made PCBs and electronic assemblies meet the highest standards for performance and reliability. Through its involvement with PCBAA, TTCI is proud to contribute its voice, expertise, and advocacy to support the growth and competitiveness of the U.S. electronics industry.

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
06/13/2025 | Marcy LaRont, I-Connect007Today is Friday the 13th, and in much of Western folklore, this is a day when bad luck is lurking. But while Friday the 13th may top Western superstition charts, the global calendar is sprinkled with its own unlucky legends. In Spain and Greece, the bad juju lands on Tuesday the 13th—a day linked to Mars, the god of war, and naturally, chaos. In Italy, it’s Friday the 17th that is feared, thanks to the Roman numeral XVII, which can be rearranged to spell VIXI—Latin for “I have lived” (a poetic way of saying you’re dead).
