The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

June 2024 Design007 Magazine: Creating a Culture of Collaboration
June 10, 2024 | I-Connect007 Editorial TeamEstimated reading time: Less than a minute
Creating a Culture of Collaboration
PCB designers could learn quite a bit from NASA and the private companies that develop spacecraft: Every one of these vehicles is a testament to the value of collaboration among disparate stakeholders. Without a collaborative culture, the rocket might never get off the ground.
A lot of designers are still tossing their design “over the wall” and hoping for the best. They don’t talk to the fabricator or the assembly provider, and definitely not the component supplier. They’re just out there winging it, because that’s how they’ve always done it, and it’s worked out most of the time. For the June 2024 issue of Design007 Magazine, we asked our expert contributors to weigh in on collaboration, why communication with stakeholders is so critical, and how to set up a collaboration culture in your company.

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
10/04/2024 | Marcy LaRont, PCB007 MagazineFall presents us with a lot of tradeshow activity, such as the Anaheim Electronics & Manufacturing Show, which kicked off the month in California. Our intrepid managing editor Andy Shaughnessy has been on the scene and I look forward to hearing more about the show from him. Next week, we’ll be at PCB West in the Bay Area, followed by SMTAI in Chicago the following week. For me, it feels like a proper launch into standard Q4 craziness highlighted by the end-of-year sales hustle and frenetic finalization of 2025 budgets. October also brings a stark reminder that the holiday season will soon be upon us. So, let the crazy begin.
It’s Only Common Sense: Creating a Company Culture Rooted in Well-being
09/30/2024 | Dan Beaulieu -- Column: It's Only Common SenseWe must do more if we want to succeed. Like the old Oldsmobile advertisement says: This is no longer your father’s workforce. If we want to keep an engaged workforce, we must create an environment where every individual feels valued, supported, and motivated to bring their best selves to work every day.

Global Citizenship: The Nexus of Chinese and American Business Relations
08/14/2024 | Tom Yang -- Column: Global CitizenshipMany people I talk to feel there are very few similarities between how Americans and Chinese do business. However, I believe that’s not true. That’s why I researched the similarities between our cultures for this second column on global citizenship. Remember, it was American companies that taught China how to manufacture circuit boards. Our factories have your fingerprints all over them. So, it should come as no surprise that Chinese and American business practices—while shaped by distinct cultural, historical, and socio-economic factors—nevertheless share several similarities. We still mostly use Western-made equipment and follow IPC standards developed in North America and Europe.
