Built for What’s Next: The End of Flat Thinking

11/05/2026 | Michael Gleason -- Column: Built for What’s Next
Advanced PCB design increasingly brings electrical performance, thermal behavior, mechanical requirements, material selection, and manufacturability into the same conversation. The board sits within a larger physical system, and each decision can influence how that system performs. Looking at those relationships together creates more opportunity to optimize the design as a whole.

Why Laser Soldering Gets So Much Attention

10/28/2026 | Nolan Johnson, SMT007 Magazine
Production soldering techniques that persist on the shop floor each have their own unique advantages. For complete board assemblies with standard joints and built-in volume, convection reflow is a perennial choice. For through-hole joints, the solution is wave soldering. A relatively small number of solder joints may justify robotic or human hand soldering, but another soldering technique that seems to be gaining prominence is laser soldering.

Connect the Dots: Design With the Quote in Mind

10/29/2026 | Kelly Atay -- Column: Connect the Dots
The quoting process has always been an important part of high-quality PCB prototyping and manufacturing. With supply chain disruptions and intensifying demand for domestically produced boards, that is even more true today. As we’ve previously discussed in recent articles or our book, "The Printed Circuit Designer’s Guide to… Designing for Reality," board designs are becoming more complex. Now, so is manufacturing them.
