ATLANT 3D and the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance research, technology development, and innovation infrastructure in California. The partnership combines ATLANT 3D's programmable atomic-scale manufacturing platform with UC Berkeley's research ecosystem to explore A-HUB California.
Based on ATLANT 3D's Copenhagen A-HUB model, A-HUB California would connect research, education, technology transfer, entrepreneurship, and industry. An A-HUB is an autonomous materials foundry combining AI, atomic-scale manufacturing, and automated testing in a closed loop to discover, validate, and scale advanced materials and technologies.
The partners will explore joint research, prototype development, machine-learning workflows, and training, accelerating the path from materials discovery to industry-scalable technologies. Students and postdocs will participate. The collaboration is facilitated by the Berkeley Emerging Technologies Research (BETR) Center, a UC Berkeley academia-industry hub of physical electronics research spanning materials, processes, devices, and integrated systems.
ATLANT 3D's Direct Atomic Layer Processing (DALP®) technology and the NANOFABRICATOR® platform deposit materials with atomic-scale precision where needed, connecting digital materials design with physical experimentation and device development.
"Our work spans materials and processes through to devices and integrated systems, and the step that most often slows us down is physical validation," said Prof. Ramesh, a faculty member of materials science & engineering at UC Berkeley. Dr. Michael Bartl, Senior Executive Director of the BETR Center added: "This partnership connects our work in materials and device development with programmable atomic-scale manufacturing, so our researchers and students can test material and process variations and learn from real measurements far sooner."

Together, UC Berkeley and ATLANT 3D will explore how infrastructure and multidisciplinary expertise can support research, develop talent, and accelerate the discovery, validation, and scaling of advanced materials and technologies.
