Jon Peddie Research reports the growth of the global PC-based graphics processor unit (GPU) market reached 76.6 million units in Q3'25 and PC CPU shipments increased to 65.0 million units.
Overall, GPUs will have a compound annual growth rate of 1.5% to 2029 and reach an installed base of 2,995 million units at the end of the forecast period. Over the next five years, the penetration of discrete GPUs (dGPU) in the PC will be 25%.
Year-to-year total GPU shipments, including all platforms and all types of GPUs, increased 4.0%, desktop graphics increased by 10.7%, and notebooks increased by 1.4%.
As indicated in the following chart, AMD's overall GPU market share increased 0.9% from last quarter, Intel's market share decreased -0.8%, and Nvidia's market share decreased -0.1%.
Overall, CPU unit shipments increased 2.2% from last quarter; AMD’s increased 1%, and Intel’s decreased -0.8%.
The GPU's overall attach rate (which includes integrated and discrete GPUs, desktops, notebooks, and workstations) in PCs for the quarter increased to 120%, up 2.9% from the last quarter.
The overall PC CPU market decreased -2.2% year to year and increased 2.2% quarter to quarter.
The third quarter is traditionally up from the previous quarter. This quarter's GPU shipments were down from the 10-year average of 4.7%.
“The PC and GPU market has been anything but stable or predictable,” said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research. “Memory prices increasing, uncertainty about tariffs, confusion about what an AI PC is, and mixed messages about Windows 10 have disrupted planning and seasonality. Some might call it chaos.”
