The real cost to manufacture a PCB encompasses everything that goes into making the product: the materials and other value-added supplies, machine and personnel costs, and most importantly, your quality. A hard look at real costs seems wholly appropriate.
Alternate Metallization Processes
Traditional electroless copper and electroless copper immersion gold have been primary PCB plating methods for decades. But alternative plating metals and processes have been introduced over the past few years as miniaturization and advanced packaging continue to develop.

October 22, 2024 | WEBWIREEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Henkel and Teca-Print today have announced a partnership in the pad printing field of printed electronics. The collaboration aims to further drive the adoption of pad printing solutions in emerging technologies such as antenna, digital healthcare, 3D electronics, and smart mobility by supporting customers in accelerating their projects. Based on the partners combined expertise Henkel and Teca-Print will offer seamless product recommendations from R&D to final production processes as well as joint trial possibilities and feasibility studies.
Henkel is an industry-leading supplier of printed electronics materials and services. The broad Loctite portfolio of functional inks includes conductive inks and paints as well as resistive and dielectric inks. Henkel’s portfolio and four decades of material formulation expertise enable the company´s partners to develop printed electronics applications tailored to the specific properties demanded by industrial customers – for example in the manufacturing of membrane switches, flexible circuits, force sensors, heating elements, and medical biosensors for solutions in healthcare, automotive and consumer electronics. To further address the challenge of 3D parts functionalization the company has recently developed a new range of functional inks that can be applied by pad printing technology.
For more than 50 years, Teca-Print has played a leading role in the evolution of pad printing technology. The company’s equipment and systems are developed to meet the specific needs of its customers. Teca-Print not only ensures the highest quality and accuracy with its pad printing systems, but also provides cutting-edge software for process enhancement. The comprehensive product line features complex automation solutions, specialized and standard pad printing machines, along with a full range of peripheral equipment, accessories and consumables including printing pads, inks and cliché plates.
“At Henkel, we strongly believe in the value of close collaborations and a broad and diverse ecosystem of partners to further unlock the enormous potential of printed electronics across industries,” explained Anna Ryzhova, Business Development Manager for Printed Electronics at Henkel. “Teca-Print is a proven and well-renowned leader in pad printing technologies since decades. Together, we want to combine our different expertise to help customers to overcome challenges and to accelerate their projects for new market opportunities in fields such as smart living, healthcare, mobility, electronics and more.”
“We are thrilled to partner with a leading material specialist such as Henkel,” said Dominik Aeschbach, Expert for Printed Electronics at Teca-Print. “Their extensive ink formulation expertise for pad printing applications combined with our machine and matching consumables know-how will enable us to transfer our pad printing capabilities into the field of printed electronics. By commonly providing seamless development and production support as well as a broad variety of trial and study offerings we are convinced to achieve optimum printing results that will help bringing this technology to a new level.”
Both companies will demonstrate their partnership and showcase their combined capabilities on the upcoming TechBlick Berlin on October 23 and 24. Henkel and Teca-Print will present their leading material portfolio at booth D02 and D03. In addition, the partners will engage in a speaking session under the title “Advancing Pad Printable Solutions with Henkel Materials” on October 23 at 12:40 pm, Room 3, Track C.

I-Connect007 Editor’s Choice: Five Must-Reads for the Week
10/04/2024 | Marcy LaRont, PCB007 MagazineFall presents us with a lot of tradeshow activity, such as the Anaheim Electronics & Manufacturing Show, which kicked off the month in California. Our intrepid managing editor Andy Shaughnessy has been on the scene and I look forward to hearing more about the show from him. Next week, we’ll be at PCB West in the Bay Area, followed by SMTAI in Chicago the following week. For me, it feels like a proper launch into standard Q4 craziness highlighted by the end-of-year sales hustle and frenetic finalization of 2025 budgets. October also brings a stark reminder that the holiday season will soon be upon us. So, let the crazy begin.
