SERMA Microelectronics: A Contributor to COPERNICUS LSTM Satellite Project
November 1, 2021 | SERMA MicroelectronicsEstimated reading time: Less than a minute

SERMA Microelectronics has been selected by AIRBUS Defence and Space for the assembly of an optical sensor mounted on the LSTM (Land Surface Temperature Monitoring) satellite.
This satellite is part of COPERNICUS, the European Earth observation program, and will aim to measure the planet’s temperature precisely. It will be used to optimize agricultural irrigation by determining the ideal amount of water to be applied to each plot of land.
AIRBUS Madrid will be in charge of the overall project management with the design and assembly of the satellite and AIRBUS Toulouse will develop the advanced optical instrument. This new project confirms the recognized know-how of SERMA Microelectronics in the handling and assembly of large CMOS optical chips, especially for the challenging Space and Military sectors.

American Made Advocacy: America, It’s Time to Reclaim Manufacturing Leadership
04/22/2025 | Shane Whiteside -- Column: American Made AdvocacyLike other microelectronics we invented and perfected, PCB manufacturing was offshored to Asia, which undermined our ability to participate fully in the growing global PCB market. Our steady decline in global market share comes with an additional cost: U.S. PCB manufacturers are increasingly being left behind in adopting the latest equipment and process innovations that are being introduced in Asia.
American Made Advocacy: Reshoring—About Trust, Not Just Geography
03/25/2025 | Shane Whiteside -- Column: American Made AdvocacyIn today’s chaotic political environment, you might have missed the fact that Congress allocated nearly $3 billion to rip out and replace key components in America’s telecommunications networks. The funding is to remove equipment from networks nationwide because of cyberattacks on internet routers and cellular networks enabled by a Chinese company that makes more than half of the routers sold in the U.S. We know from prior experience and similar transgressions that we cannot trust that Chinese components aren’t being used for nefarious purposes.
