Safran, PGZ Reinforce Defense Partnership Through Innovation and Local Industrial Cooperation
September 8, 2025 | SafranEstimated reading time: 2 minutes
Safran Electronics & Defense, a leading European high-technology company in aerospace and defense, and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. (PGZ), Poland’s primary defense industry leader, have signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) to further expand their collaboration in support of European security and industrial cooperation during the International Defense Industry Exhibition (MSPO) held in Kielce.
An initial Memorandum of Understanding was signed in March 2025, marking the first step in expanding cooperation between Safran and PGZ in joint aerospace and defense projects.
As part of this roadmap, Safran Electronics & Defense and PGZ will explore the potential to jointly cooperate on the HAMMER smart precision-guided air-to-ground munition, including manufacturing, marketing, sale, aircraft integration and maintenance activities in Poland for Polish and export customers.
The MoUs signed during MSPO also include expanding existing cooperation between Safran Electronics & Defense and Wojskowe Zakłady Elektroniczne (WZE) on land inertial navigation systems, specifically the GEONYX product family, which is already being supplied to Poland’s short-and medium-range air defense programs. This cooperation includes a transfer of production to WZE and will soon lead to the establishment of a new GEONYX production line in Poland.
Marcin Idzik, Vice president of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A., said: “Cooperation with our European partners is vital to not only provide us with new capabilities, but also to strengthen Poland’s security. Safran Electronics & Defense is among our most crucial partners, with the cooperation already ongoing since March. Thanks to today’s agreements, we will launch a production line of GEONYX systems in Poland, which will further enhance our potential. We are very pleased to have the collaboration with Safran Electronics & Defense getting closer and stronger.”
Alexandre Ziegler, Head of Defense Global Business Unit, Safran Electronics and Defense stated: "This partnership reflects the strength and trust that underpin the long-standing relationship between France and Poland, embodied today by Safran Electronics & Defense and PGZ. By combining cutting-edge innovation with local industrial cooperation, we are delivering solutions such as HAMMER and GEONYX that not only reinforce Poland’s defense capabilities but also contribute to European security and technological sovereignty. Together, we are building a sustainable collaboration grounded in shared values, advanced technology, and long-term benefits for both our nations and for Europe as a whole."
This partnership demonstrates Safran Electronics & Defense and PGZ’s joint commitment to developing industrial synergies, strengthening European technological sovereignty, and providing innovative solutions to bolster the security of Poland and Europe as a whole.
