Server CPUs Shipments Up 3.8% On-Quarter in Q2
August 12, 2024 | Jon Peddie ResearchEstimated reading time: 1 minute
Jon Peddie Research reports that the global client CPU market dropped in Q2’24 from last quarter but showed strong growth of 10.7% over last year, and server CPU shipments increased 3.8% year over year.
The overall PC CPU market decreased by -5% quarter to quarter and increased by 10.7% year to year.
Server CPU shipments increased by 3.8% from last quarter and were down -15% from last year. AMD captured 25% of the server CPU market.
The second quarter is typically down compared to the previous quarter. This quarter’s total
iGPU shipments, which include all client platforms, only slipped -1% from the previous quarter and increased 14% over last year.
“The data center is still getting all the news and driving suppliers’ share price-to-earnings ratios,” said Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research. “The client PC market has yet to find its buoyancy and continues to jump up and down but not in a predictable seasonal manner—at least not yet.”
The new Q2’24 edition of Market Watch will contain the above information and more. For easier consumption, we have changed the report’s format from a heavily narrated version to a heavily charted version. We have also added server and client CPU shipment data back to Q1’21 and GPU-compute (GPGPU) shipment data back to Q1’21 for AMD, Intel, and Nvidia. We have expanded the pivot data array to include those devices.
