Spirit AeroSystems finalizes MRO Services Contract with MAB Engineering

Spirit AeroSystems announced a partnership agreement with MAB Engineering Services Sdn Bhd (MAB Engineering) to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for nacelle and flight control surfaces to Malaysia Airlines and other operators at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Sepang, Malaysia.

The agreement finalizes a Memorandum of Understanding the companies had announced during the 2022 MRO Asia-Pacific in Singapore.
“Over the last 10 plus years, Spirit has supported the Malaysian Aerospace industry, while benefiting from its hospitality and talent. With this partnership, we will grow our production focused Operations in Kuala Lumpur to also include MRO. The scale and technical capability of MAB Engineering will allow us to offer best-value, high-quality services to the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific market,” said Kailash Krishnaswamy, Senior Vice President of Aftermarket Services for Spirit. “We continue to execute our growth strategy of offering local services to global customers.”
MAB Engineering is a wholly owned entity of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and operates 11 production lines at Subang Airport and at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, providing MRO services for narrowbody and widebody aircraft. MAB Engineering currently holds 21 regulatory certifications covering Malaysia, Europe, the United States, among others.
“We are delighted that MAB Engineering has been appointed as an Authorised Repair Centre by Spirit AeroSystems, allowing us to perform Nacelle and Flight Control Surfaces repairs and services under agreed-upon terms and conditions. This will further strengthen our in-house MRO capabilities to provide services to our global customers, while ensuring we maintain the highest levels of quality and safety,” said Mohd Nadziruddin Mohd Basri, Chief Executive Officer of Aviation Services for MAG.
Spirit AeroSystems Aftermarket Solutions, which has grown at over 20% in recent years, has 10 wholly owned, joint venture or authorized repair centers around the world in United States of America, Northern Ireland, Morocco, Jordan, India, China and Taiwan. In addition, Spirit has partnered with ST Engineering to serve select countries in the Middle East region.
